Terri Lynn Braun

Her growing years

Terri has always been curious why people do what they do!  As a kid, she was fascinated with murder mysteries and remembers sitting and watching Perry Mason and Columbo with her dad.  She loved to just find a comfy corner somewhere and read Nancy Drew or just “people watch” wondering what their stories were.  Growing up in a town where she didn’t quite “fit in”, she wondered how kids could be so mean and why some people were so successful while others struggled.  She journaled and wrote as a hobby to get through her teenage years (they are brutal, ya know!)  This curiosity of the human mind led her to attend and graduate from Fort Hays State University with a BS in Psychology.

Her passions working

After graduating, people become her passion.  Not only did she wonder how the mind works, but soon realized the impact a kind gesture can make and how helping others was rewarding.  She began her professional human services career working as a Case Manager for 9 years at the local mental health center.  She loved helping clients learn skills so they could continue to live independently.  She then was offered a job to run and coordinate a Crisis Management Facility.  Challenge accepted!  For the next 10 years, she managed the crisis facility where she emphasized respect, helped others learn constructive ways to deal with situations and find hope. For the last 27 years, she has dedicated her life to others and this passion has not waivered.  After leaving the mental health center, she became employed  part-time for two years as a Paraprofessional within the school district working with Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. She has recently pursued a new adventure that she feels God is calling her to do.  She currently works part-time at St. Nicholas of Myra in Hays Kansas where she is the Ministry Coordinator.

Her inspiration

As a child, Terri had always enjoyed writing as a hobby, but it wasn’t until 2014 after suffering a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that writing became an important part of her life. She began journaling to help in her recovery as the road back to normalcy was hard and the healing was slow. She became discouraged and lost hope when it felt she would not regain the cognitive and vestibular deficits the brain damage caused.  She fell into a trap of self-pity and spiraled into a pit of despair.  The next 3 years of her life she attended many types of therapies.  She also began to spend time with God daily and established a relationship with Him.  With her hard work and patience, hope and progress returned which inspired her to write her first book.

Terri has discovered that most of us don’t know the power and potential that we possess within.  God knows though, as He created us.  We were loved into existence! We can find joy and live fulfilling lives despite life’s circumstances as He gives us peace amidst the chaos. With His strength, you can weather any storm and possess the courage to live life with abandon.

Her creations

In 2016, she authored a book entitled Good Morning Sunshine: Finding Strength and Comfort in God which was published in 2017. In 2018, the book Preparing Your Heart for Christmas arrived which is a compilation of Advent reflections. From these books, Terri has been invited to various speaking engagements regarding her life’s spiritual journey of hope.  Her book No More Patches has been published by TBN’s Trilogy publishing and was released May 27, 2021. This book enlightens how those who are lost can find their purpose with God and find joy despite their struggles. She continues to write today aspiring of more creations so that others can learn of the love, healing, and guidance that He can provide.

In 2023, Terri was contacted and asked to be a part of the Brain Injury Association of Kansas and help to plan their annual conference for Northwest Kansas. With her love for planning events as well as her own personal experience with a brain injury, she was honored to do so.  She was a guest speaker in the year 2023 speaking over “TBI: The Invisible Injury”.  She continues to be a part of this organization.

Over the last year, Terri has become active in the Ellis County Ministerial Alliance (ECMA), an ecumenical organization that serves the needs of the community.  She has organized community events such as the community Thanksgiving dinner and The National Day of Prayer.  She also keeps busy with the ONE Magazine, a publication of the ECMA, and is the editor as well as the chair of the Advisory Board for this publication.
